"L" Station at Adams & Wabash, Chicago, Illinois

A view looking east on Adams Street toward the Adams & Wabash "L" Station in Chicago's Loop which opened in 1896. Chicago's "L", short for "elevated," is the third oldest rapid transit system in the United States. The oldest sections of the system became operational in 1892, just in time for the World's Columbian Exposition. While parts of the system are elevated, the trains also run in subway tunnels and at grade level throughout the city.
