Having a recurring dream at the moment about a bridge not too dissimilar to this...
Had a little look into it, but still need your help. Apparently, a bridge may symbolise any sort of transition in the dreamer's life. (*Ok. I can go with that). Freud gives the example of a woman who wants to be a man (*WTF!?..that Freud was more of a perv than ME!), and consequently dreams of bridges that don't quite reach the other side of the river (*surely not me, maybe Ronnie though). However, the symbolised change may be something that can be acheived more easily, but still possibly requiring will and determination; for example, a change of lifestyle (*more sex please!,...looks longingly towards Jacq)!), or passing from middle years into old age (*not me surely, i'm a mere youngster).
The bridge is a means of crossing a river (*no shit sherlock!), and even crossing from one country to another - foreign, new, strange - country (*Australia perhaps!!...where is that Ark?). It may therefore symbolise a critical juncture in your life: for example, about whether you are going to be able to go through with a change from living on your own to living with a partner (*i'd need a partner to give this validity, ...Jacq you in??); from one job to another (*Hmmm..na); from one set of values to another (*but i have no values, morales or ethics, nope).
It may also symbolize birth - that is, the crossing from 'the other world' to this, or from womb to an independent existence (*Hang on Freud! There is a difference between wanting to get into a gals pants and wanting to get into her womb, surely!).
It may even represent the male sexual organ, which 'bridges the gap' between male and female sexual partners (*now we are talking. So i've been dreaming about a cock, ...great, maybe i'm gay after all.)
Quite a wide range of possible interpretations. All in all though, i'm still confused... before i go and get a sex change please lend your thoughts!
