A Loyalist Family Portrait

The family of John and Celena March of Stouffville Ontario pose for a photograph. The Marches were United Empire Loyalists, descended from Peter Martz who lived in upstate New York. There are still Marches in the Stouffville/Markham area.

Back row: Eva Steckley, Will March, Georgina March, Percy March, Elsie March and David March.

Seated: Minnie (March) Curtis, John March, Celena (Clift) March and David Curtis.

Kids: Frank and Erla Curtis.

My great-grandmother is Minnie (seated left) and David Curtis (seated right). The kids are my great uncle and great aunt. Minnie and David moved to Saskatchewan, tried farming, ran a dry goods store in Wolseley, and ended up in Regina after David was injured at the grain elevator he worked at.

My grandmother Elsie (not born in this photo) grew up in Wolseley and Regina. If you're a relative and want a high-resolution copy of this image, leave a comment or e-mail me at "eggertson AT gmail DOT com" (no spaces, use the symbol instead of the capitalized word).
