Week2 Abby Firehair Step By Step
Why wouldn't you want a ring of fire, without even having to use Photoshop?
For Chelsea London's 52-week project - this week was "Shallow Depth of Field"
So the idea here is to have a ring of tinfoil that is behind the model and out of the depth of field, while the model is in the shallow depth of field. Since the tinfoil ring is getting blurred, it becomes more abstract in appearance. This didn't go as far as I hoped in either of the two attempts I made, which may mean I just needed to crumple the tinfoil differently or needed it be farther back (and I was limited on space). The tinfoil and her hair is haloed red because there is a red and yellow gel combined on the strobe that's in the middle of the tinfoil ring.
In the end I supplemented this with some post-processes with both examples, which you can see here in Flickr and on my instagram. With the one with Abby shown here I went with a more painterly edit, and with with Collibrina in went for a more technical, science fiction ish look. (I've linked the IG ones since it should be real easy for you to get to my Flickr images from here)
So clearly I'm an amateur at all this, but wanted to put it out there as what's a possible direction since there are a lot of folks joining the group who've said they are new to photography. Don't be afraid of what you can do in editing and have fun with your creativity!
