Solenoid magnet

Sample of the CMS superconducting solenoid magnet. The light grey part is very pure aluminium, the dark grey is standard aluminium and the small lines in the middle of the light grey areas are superconducting wires. Cooled down to -271°C, they will take 20000 Amps ! Providing the largest ever magnetic field of 4 Tesla. (Should be able to lift the Eiffel Tower about 10m with that) More pictures and explanations here
