Mum & bub
It is so lovely to see and feel the affection a cow has for it's calf .
Most of the calves bar maybe 3 are big enough to be weaned and most of them have weaned themselves but still sneak to the milk bar to get a slurp of mum's milk.
Some of the calves are so big that they are actually bringing the cows down and they are losing condition, simply because they are putting their all into feeding their calf.
We have separated a few of the calves from mum to try and build her up again and in the process it will wean the calves.
The first few days the calves bellowed for mum and one of the cows became quite depressed, while the other one was happy to be free lol. It's been 2 weeks now and we have had all the herd together again and even though the calves wanted mum, she was no longer interested in her calf.
The cows have picked up condition and looking healthy and stronger. The calves are also doing well.
