Catching Shellfish
On March 29, 2023, My friend Erika & I walked the trail at the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway in Clifton Park, New York, USA. We were tickled pink to see a beaver, a muskrat, & a Northern Mockingbird--all of which Erika spotted! I've shared my beaver pix & will now share, day by day, my muskrat & mockingbird pix. The muskrat swam in circles near us for some time, waving its tail above the water & diving. I think it was searching for food & appeared to be catching shellfish. Really fun to watch! When I was checking for information about muskrats, I came across this at www.atshq.org/what-do-muskrats-eat/--"Because of their outstanding swimming abilities, muskrats frequently swim with their tails raised above the surface. Their tails are long, thin, and covered in scales instead of hair Muskrats use their tails as a means of propulsion when swimming."
