El Capitan/Three Brothers Winter Pano
(Better when Viewed Larger On Black)
The Three Brothers were also high on my list as I began shooting after a Winter storm last February. I knew you could shoot them from somewhere East of Cathedral Beach, so I parked at the Cathedral Beach turnout and made my way down to the River. I was looking for a spot where Michael Frye had shot from which featured a decent reflection from the River, but I couldn't see anything like that from Cathedral Beach. Just as I was about to give up, another photographer came into view. As he was shooting with a DSLR and hauling a large tripod, I thought he might be the one to ask. He instantly knew what I was after and was kind enough to back track through the snow as we both made our way back up the river for another few hundred yards or so. Once we found the spot, I put the 14-24 on the D4 and began shooting away. I initially was planning to just shoot the Three Brothers (pictured on the right, above) but after noticing that El Capitan was also reflected, I decided to try to catch the whole thing. I couldn't quite make that happen with the 14-24, so i went vertical and tried the hand- held pano instead.
This was the second pano attempt as I made my way around the valley that morning. I posted my first attempt quite a few weeks ago and included it below.
