A Buena Vista Street Christmas

For better viewing, please View Larger On Black if you have a moment. Thanks!

Two years ago, if you had the misfortune of walking through Disney's California Adventure during the holidays, you had to actually look around for a while before finding any decorations while being regaled by holiday favorites by the Beach Boys. Something about that experience never quite put me in the holiday mood. For most guests, they probably didn't even notice a change of decor until they spotted a small tree way out on Paradise Pier at some point during the day.

Today, the entrance to the park is nearly unrecognizable as it has been re-themed to Buena Vista Street in Los Angeles, circa 1937. One of my favorite moments in that park came just a couple weeks ago as I suddenly heard Bing Crosby singing "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, toys in every store" while literally looking at toys in the window as a trolly car clanged past. It just doesn't get any better than that. I've always loved heading down to Disneyland during the holidays, but now, thanks to John Lasster and company, Disneyland has some serious competition just across the Esplanade. Between the large tree out in front of Elias and Company, the bell playing carolers, the department store Santa, and decorations, you literally begin to experience Christmas as it was in 1937. What an amazing transformation! If you haven't been down to Buena Vista Street yet during the holidays, be sure to add it to your list of things to do. Pop into the Fiddler Fifer and Practical Cafe for a Peppermint Mocha, find a bench, and just soak in the holidays.
