Aurora Above Skagsanden

I headed back to Norway this past Winter with two objectives: The first was to drive from Lofoten up to Senja to see what Winter looked like up there (it was amazing) and the second was to get some aurora shots since solar activity seemed to be picking up this year. On my previous two trips, I was almost shut out as it was either clouded over almost every night or the aurora would’t do much if I managed to get a clear night. On this particular trip, rain and clouds were in the forecast for almost every night when I arrived, but suddenly, toward the end of my trip, it began to snow, and better still…there was a break in the clouds. After taking a quick glance at my weather apps, I saw an opening over toward Ramberg and I took off immediately knowing that more clouds were on the way. As I arrived at the beach, the aurora showed up immediately, and then it just kept getting stronger. Amazingly, only a couple of other photographers were down there including someone from New Jersey who set up not too far away from me. Together, we marveled at the sky and took as many shots as possible before the next wave of clouds moved in. This was also my first full night shooting with the Laowa 10mm 2.8 with the Nikon Z8 and it held up pretty well!

I also shot several timelapses on the D850 while I was there and got much more hiking in before having to head back home. If you would like to see what I was up to last February in Lofoten and Senja, please feel free to visit my Youtube channel at the link below. Please be sure to say hi if you make it over there! :)
