A Snowy Morning Above Sakrisoy
In the Fall of 2020, I began planning a trip to the Lofoten Islands for February of that year. Needless to say , that didn’t happen as I was one of the first people in Southern California to get Covid. So then I started thinking about the Winter of 2021, but Norway closed its borders to anyone from the US since so many of us were still getting sick at that point. So that took me to the Winter of 2022, but when I was making plans in the Fall, the border still wasn’t open to the US so I had to bail. Instead, I headed off to Canada but only after providing them proof that I had gotten Covid again within two months of travel.
So you can’t blame me if I wasn’t overly optimistic about my chances of getting in this year. In spite of my doubts, I stayed well, my luggage arrived intact after taking FOUR different flights on SAS, and my little cabin in Sorvagen was ready and waiting when I arrived some 30 hours later in the snow. I spent 10 amazing days driving around Lofoten and even though I didn’t have the best weather (it mostly rained almost every day with a bit of snow mixed in) I did manage to see the aurora twice and shot tons of photos and video while I was there. I am slowly catching up on youtube and the Lofoten episode(s) should go up in a few weeks. Youtube is still rather new to me, but if you would like to see what I have been up to over the past few months, please feel free to visit my channel at the link below.
In the meantime, this was one of the views that greeted me on a rare morning when it stopped snowing and we actually saw some blue sky for a few minutes before it disappeared. I will definitely be headed back there as soon as I get a chance.
