South Tufa Sunrise

Here's another shot from our 24 hour Yosemite/Mono lake marathon last month. After we had been shooting for about an hour, the sun finally broke through the clouds and suddenly all of the photographers on the South side of the lake were very busy. In this shot, I was trying to capture not only the marvelous light on the tufa towers, but also the double sunburst as the lake caught the reflection. This particular visit to the lake was very gratifying after being shut out on three previous attempts. Two of those were 3:30 AM wake ups, and one was a three hour drive down from Reno while I was at a convention. It's nice to shoot Mono Lake on a typical cloudless Summer day, but the lake takes on an entirely different dynamic once you have a mix of clouds and sun overhead.
