Apparent light size on pepper

This is my entry for the Strobist Lighting102 Exercise 2.1 - Apparent light size.

This series demonstrates the effect of changing the apparent size of a light source. The only light source is a Nikon SB-24 flash at right with a small Lastolite Micro-Apollo softbox. Size of the light is altered by changing the distance between flash and subject, as indicated above each photo.

Changing flash distance requires adjusting exposure or flash power to keep the overall illumination the same. Here are the settings for each shot:

160 cm: full flash power , f/11, ISO800

80 cm: full flash power, f/11, ISO200

40 cm: full flash power, f/22, ISO200

20 cm: 1/4 flash power, f/22, ISO200

10 cm: 1/8 flash power, f/22, ISO200

5 cm: 1/16 flash power, f/22, ISO200

Strobist info: SB-24 with Lastolite Micro-Apollo soft box at right within indicated distances. Triggered with an eBay trigger. Black cloth at left, back and top to reduce bounced light . See also setup shot for this photo.
