The Writer's Guild of America (West and East) is currently on strike against the AMPTP. The strike began on November 5th, 2007 and has put many people out of work, not just the writers. TV viewers are probably noticing the interruption to their normal viewing schedules. There are several funds available to help industry professionals who are experiencing financial hardship due to the strike, such as The Actor's Fund and The Motion Picture & Television Fund. The last time the WGA went on strike was in 1988, and that strike lasted for almost 22 weeks.
