Fuel Discharge?

Smith Rock State Park, Deschutes County, Oregon.

While gazing at the stars looking for meteor showers, we noticed a strange beam of light that lasted just about 10 minutes around midnight. Surprisingly, it aligned perfectly with the peak of the rock in front of us. I took a couple of pictures of this strange phenomenon, not knowing what it was at that time. Later on, I came to know from a fellow Flickrite (thanks Marsha), that it was a fuel discharge from a Japanese mapping satellite launch! Strange things happen in the sky when you look carefully!
