Tintype: Ella Logan Meharry and Her Pet Sheep
I used to have sheep (along with Nancy, an ex) and, at least in my experience, they are skeptical about the whole concept of friendship. Maybe Ella had a special touch.
When we had sheep, we got a government wool subsidy. The process was kind of mysterious: you turned in your wool and (I don't remember if they even paid you for it) some months later you got a subsidy check from the Federal Government.
I never desired to learn how to shear (or change the oil in my car, a job I botched, once upon a time), so every year we would scrounge around to find somebody to do the job. One year these two Amish teenagers came out. They really did a lousy job---if you're not careful, the shears cut in to the flesh. I'm sure our sheep were not happy. While the amateur Amish boys were working on the sheep, one of the horses stole their sandwiches out of their truck.
Poetic justice, I guess.
This photo is another Ebay find. When I saw it, I had to buy it---and paid too much money for it. Nowadays, I'm on the Ebay wagon, if only temporarily.
