2009 Top One Hundred Countdown # 38: Carte De Visite---Young Boy On A Prop Column

This cdv was on Ebay, listed for a $100 as a "By It Now or Best Offer." More or less the second I saw it, I messaged the seller with a $75 dollar offer. I half expected him to say no, because I thought, given its unusual informality, it was sure to sell at the $100 figure. The seller had speculated that, posing so informally, the boy might well be a photographer's assistant, and, though there is no way to prove that, it's a pretty good guess.
He took the offer, and here is the card. At the show at the Nelson-Atkins a few years ago, where they displayed the first chronological half of their Hallmark gift, there were a few snapshot-like daguerreotypes. Though this card is not Hallmark-quality clean, it has that same winning simplicity.
