ППЕ-77 "Дятел"
The ППЕ-77 / PPE-77 "Проект Пистолета Ерёмина" / "Proyekt Pistoleta Eryomina" (Eryomin's Pistol Project) is a semi-automatic pistol chambered for 9x18mm developed by engineer Evgeniy Eryomin in 1977 in the Soviet Union. Commissioned by a sector of the government, the Eryomin-project was intended to be used by particularly the police and special & security forces, who at this time was issued the Makarov-pistol.
Nicknamed "дятел" / "dyatel" (woodpecker) by those opposed to the project, thinking it was ecominically wasteful and uneccesary to replace the competent Makarov-pistol.
Underwent trials and passed. Never put into use in the Soviet Union, however a few thousand were built and sold to Soviet-Allied militia in Latin America.
