Disused Railway Walk

Healey Dell, Rochdale UK

A scene from a visit Mid-December (2018)

Passenger trains stopped running here (Rochdale to Bacup line) in June 1947 due to competition from road transport... A temporary coal-supply crises was also cited as a reason... but passenger services stopped altogether in 1949...

Goods trains continued to run until 1963 - which coincides with Dr Beeching's controversial railway Axe - closing over 5,000 miles of track and 2,363 stations. (in UK)
