Mountain Meitheal to upgrade important access route in Glenmalure

Preparatory work will begin before Christmas on the Zig Zag access route to Carrawaystick in Glenmalure following the agreement on a MOU between Mountain Meitheal, the landowner and Wicklow Upland Councils and Wicklow Rural Partnership. The project which will hit the ground in earnest is an important development in upland conservation work. Mounatin Meitheal will repair and improve drainage, upgrade the treadway and construct a new footbridge. Interested? well watch our site for the 2007 programme.

This route is an important historical artifact constructed in the 19th Century as a deer stalkers route for the Parnell Family of Avondale Estate. The trail has excellent examples of buttress work which can also be seen at other locations in the valley.
