Having to build a trophy for the Creating an Atmosphere category was a tough one. Sure, atmospheric stuff is totally up my alley but those creations usually fill the frame and use fancy lighting or photography to immerse the viewer - hard to capture in a trophy that will (hopefully) sit in someone’s display case very soon.
After (literally) weeks of pondering about this I came up with the idea of an Elven minstrel playing to animals in a tranquil nature scene, hoping to capture some of that feeling in a little character vignette. There was no tree, inititally, but it seemed too nice a concept not to do when I had the minstrel done and propped up on the little base.
And so I spent a day (or three) building a tree that required both reinventing my feather tree techniques (since, well, this had to be stable) and trying not to think about just how many elements I would soon be shipping somewhere else. Who knows… I might just have to enter the category myself now just to get to keep those bricks :P
