The Rotunda was Building 8 at Monash University’s Clayton Campus. Built in 1967 and connected to the adjoining Alexander Theatre, the Rotunda was demolished in 2017 to make way for a new jazz club site and Sound Gallery as part of a redevelopment project culminating in the Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts.

The Rotunda hosted 7 lecture theatres during its 50 year existence. Like the Alexander Theatre it was designed by Eggleston MacDonald Secomb Architects and was an example of “heroic architecture”. The Rotunda’s circular presence will be reflected in the curvaceous design of a new roof that connects the new venues with the refurbished theatre.
