Serjeant Musgrave's Dance

These drawings and sketches refer to an academic project that I took very seriously many years ago, and long before 9:11.
They hang permanently on my wall and refer to John Arden's 1959 play which I was required to read and see performed by the late sweeny, John Thaw in the title role in 1981 at the National Theatre.
That production presented me with the challenge of designing an alternative theatrical setting for this play and this artwork is the result of those endeavors.
This day, 9 December 2014, they seem to resonate with the news that a preeminent democracy has confessed to “war crimes” that may well have exacerbated and prolonged the current "war on terror." Other democracies closer to home, if not at home, may have been complicit in those "war crimes".
Nevertheless senior Republicans in the US have shown today that they are continuing to defend such actions in the interest of waging the "war on terror." and regard the alternative view as treachery.
“I was obeying orders” said one witness today. “I should have spoken out sooner”.
Had he done so, he might well now be in exile in Moscow, or otherwise be in an orange suit in chains.
He might now be dancing like Serjeant Musgrave.
In view of Britain’s special relationship with Republicans, what would Mr. Cameron have to say about this report?
