The Comfort Zone

EXPLORE Highest Rank #62

Every so often I get the urge to try something new, something that I haven't tried before, and most importantly, something that I don't feel is within my "zone of comfort". So off Tom & I went to Palm Beach for some sunset and nighttime shooting.

I wasn't too excited about the sunset image opportunities at this particular site, so we concentrated on what we would do when the nighttime arrived.

I was taking images of the Royal Park Bridge, which connects the towns of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach, as seen from a small park area just south of the bridge. I was fascinated by the reflections of the city lights on the Intracoastal waters below, with the streetlights shining in the background, along with a glimpse of the downtown buildings. I still felt that something was missing, so I found this bench which offers one the opportunity to sit and take in the view of this beautiful area and I decided to incorporate it into the shot.

I really think that, while I didn't feel too comfortable with this type of shooting, that it's important to stretch our "comfort zone" in life, whatever realm of our life that is. Tom & I often do what many people might think are "crazy things" (you know, adventure activities - nothing makes us feel more alive - not to mention the feeling of conquering our fears or limitations that we place upon ourselves). So from a photographic standpoint, this was my way of doing that. Not so scary after all.

Thanks so much for stopping by to view and especially for all of your comments, which are very much appreciated.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!
