Defending One's Own

Several juvenile/immature Swainson's hawks were actively hunting in a field when one of them successfully scored dinner. One of life's lessons then followed as the other tried their best to steal it and claim it their own. Once the prey was captured, it flew to a nearby pole to consume it, only a moment (or less) of peace to reflect upon its hunting prowess before it was challenged ... the two struggled with gusto and quite honestly I'm not sure if it was successful in retaining it. So many wings going every which way. LOL. But I do know ... what goes around, comes around ... and it's all part of growing up..

Again, I feel that young raptors are the most interesting of all and we watched for quite some time as they, and 2 others, interacted all around us.

Happy Friday!
