Life Doesn't Get Much Better
When the salmon run happens in Alaska, the bears get quite active, for they know that it's the time to stock up on them. Nowhere is that more true than in Katmai National Park, where the brown bears congregate to test their fishing skills. They chase the salmon, whether in a literal run after them, or patiently atop of the falls waiting for them to jump, or swimming about hoping to find one along the way. Every bear has a different technique. While I find all of that fascinating, I really love watching them as they rip into to the salmon, prioritizing different parts of the salmon, as they go about it ... the skin, the roe (if female), the head, the tail, the overall flesh. All the while, the gulls congregate nearby waiting for scrapes, along with some of the younger, less experienced bears. It just seems to natural and relaxing to me. If I were ever to come back as a bear, I would want to be a brown bear of Katmai. :-)
Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing Sunday. Thanks for looking.
