The Shadow By Shana Armstrong
He dances and he flickers
He taunts me and he laughs
He disappears and shrinks and morphs
And I always by him, pass
He says that I'm the shadow
That I'm the one who follows him
I'm the one that shrinks and grows
And I away when it gets dim
I tell him that he's wrong
That I'm the one who's real and strong
And yet the whole day long
I listen to his tired song
And I begin to wonder
Why am I so real?
Is the only prerequisite of life
The ability to feel?
And so I begin to wonder
As the lantern light grows slim
Am I the owner of this life?
Or does that fall to him?
