That Horizon

As soon as I quit the self portrait project, it became fun again.

Also, Casey and I went to visit this 7th grade class (Catholic school) who's been sending her (and me, sometimes) cards. Dad goes to church with their teacher, and when he told her about Casey (as he tells everyone), she went back to her class and told them about us, and they decided to "adopt" us. Their theme or whatever is making a difference, and they're using Casey as an example of how helping one person can change the world. So they've been sending us cards and stuff. They also sent a blanket at Christmas which I'm glad we didn't throw away now that we met them (it's made out of fabric with like, "Faith!" and "Hope!" written on it).

Anyway, their school year is ending soon, so we went to visit them. They were actually getting into it, even the budding emo kid in the back who was resolutely staring at his desk pretending he didn't care. They actually asked really good questions, and I think we only stopped because we'd suddenly been there for an hour, and they had stuff to learn. We even had a bit of the "Fuck society" discussion. Casey was talking about how people glare at her sometimes, and she thinks it's because she's not hiding her disability by wearing a prosthetic, or wearing long skirts and staying sitting in a wheelchair. Or how people glared at her when she was bald. One girl (who, actually, only had 1 hand, and was totally comfortable raising that arm when she had questions) was saying she knew a girl who would never grow hair (she had some disease, but she didn't say what), and she eventually decided that society could deal with it, she wasn't wearing wigs. I loved that they went to a Catholic school and we had that discussion.
