Not Out

So, Casey has cancer. She will lose her leg and half her pelvis, her ability to have her own children, and (at least) a year of her life.

A lot of people have been treating Casey differently because of this. Touching her, hovering over her, wanting to visit when they haven't seen or even talked to her in years, being careful about what they say (even if it isn't about cancer or amputation).

She's still Casey. She still has the same sense of humor (she named her tumor "Boner"), the same personality, and the same annoyances. She's never been into social situations, and the fact that she's sick is making her even less likely to want to see everyone.

Yes, Casey could die. And it's something that gets us both down sometimes. But she's still Casey. It's amazing how much people have been helping us, in any way they can, from free furniture to Facebook groups. The positive energy is amazing, and we absolutely appreciate it. But she's still Casey. And it's blatantly obvious that some people suddenly just care because, oh my gosh, cancer.

The cancer didn't make her stupid. Losing her leg isn't going to make her stupid. She can tell when someone pities her, and when someone actually genuinely cares.
