Grandma

My grandmother.

 

She's mellowed a lot over the last couple years, and is now mostly harmless. But for a long time, she was a terrible, judgmental, mean human being.

 

She has told me I'm going to hell, I'm wrong for not being Catholic, and that children should be seen and not heard. When I was 19, and asking to be included in the planning for the reunions, because I needed advance warning to be able to go. So childish. In her mind, adulthood means marriage and kids. So I am still a child. My 34 year old cousin is still a child. Because he's not married. Also, all gay people are mean, because she was protesting at a pride fest once, and a gay person yelled back at her. So gay people. They're mean. Just. Grandma, no.

 

So while she has mellowed and calmed down a lot, I still hold her at a very large distance, and have not tried to get to know her again.

 

All that said, I liked how the light was hitting her so I took a picture.
