the face

This is an elderly woman in one of the families I interviewed around Menaka. Her face told many stories. Most of the time she looked grim, and old, and like each wrinkle was a heavy burden, full of memories.

 

I forgot what I did to make her laugh, but she let out this rustling, quiet hickup of a laugh and I managed to catch it. I like to look at the photo and wonder what that face and those eyes have seen.
