mod as hell
Chicago Hotel Directory
From This Week in Chicago, August 23, 1952. This is to help a friend with his new
Historic Hotels of America Flickr group. On a downtown photo trip 5/28/08, we noted that Allerton, Blackstone, Congress, Drake, Hilton/Stevens, Knickerbocker, and Palmer House are all still open (of course, they may have different owners and/or been drastically remodeled), and different hotels now exist in the old buildings of Croydon, Devonshire, and St. Clair.
Lots more to check on. I know Edgewater Beach is long gone, and I believe a few of these are transient hotels now.
Oh, the ads are pretty interesting, too--when I fix my scanning problems I'll be scanning many. many more pages from my copies of This Week in Chicago.
