Single Track in the PRB??
For all the young'uns out there that are used to seeing pictures of multiple tracks in the Powder River, here's one from 21 years ago when it was still single track with 4 to 6 mile long sidings so multiple trains could squeeze in for fleeting.
1994 was the year of the C44-9W's and here a brand new 8696 leads another -9 and one of the "old" C40-8's through the curves just south of Walker, WY.
The subgrade for the second track is in place and compacted, just waiting for ties, rail and ballast. For the time being it made a very good road to get to some of the backcountry that wasn't easily accessible otherwise. And nobody cared!
