Minister of Fisheries, Einar K. Gudfinnsson, announced October 17 that commercial whalng in Iceland will resume after a 17-year ban.
According to the Icelandic government's estimation, there are 25.800 fin whales ond 43.600 minke whales in Icelandic waters. The Minister's decision means that 0.2 percent of local minkes can be hunted ond 0.04 percent of fin whales.
