a red rose in Charlie Demuth's Garden

This is a lovely red rose on a cloudy day, just past it's prime, the petals curling. This rose is blooming in Charlie Demuth's backyard garden on the second block of East King Street in Lancaster. It's not a rose bush his mother grew, I'm pretty sure (though I'm not 100% completely sure), but it grows in the backyard where Charlie famously cloistered when he was back home living in Lancaster. Georgia O'Keefe used to sit alongside Charlie in this garden and they would paint in oils. Oil paintings Charlie would eventually will to Georgia when he died. Alfred Stieglitz, William Carlos Williams, Eugene O'Neill, and many other notable figures from the arts visited him here, and surely sat in this garden alongside Charlie, too.
