Hoary Redpoll
Two members of the Muskoka Field Naturalists have confirmed that this redpoll is indeed a Hoary. They stand out among a flock of Common Redpolls by virtue of their frostier upper parts, less streaky underparts, puffed-out forehead, stubbier looking bill and increased feathering around base of their bills Unlike the similar Common Redpoll, the Hoary Redpoll is rarely seen here in Ontario. I have always wanted to see a Hoary, but I was over the moon with excitement when this one perched for a photograph.
