A Place of Secrets
In August while exploring the mountains in the Aspen area, I stumbled across this incredible place. Astonishingly the snow was still melting down the mountain sides at this point because of the great amount of snow we received last winter. This was also close to an area where the avalanches had caused much damage to the mountain sides of trees. Driving past the rows and rows of flattened trees was eerily fascinating. Finding this little place tucked away into the mountain side completely untouched was quite a thrill.The mist covered the entirety of the mountain peak and even as I stood there the mist slowly crept down the mountain side. You can't tell from the picture but there was quite a drizzle happening. I'm glad no one was there to see me huddling on my knees next to my tripod spreading my jacket in the air over my camera to prevent the rain from soaking it while getting this long exposure haha. Crazy things we do to get the shot we want. (If I knew it was going to rain I'd have brought an umbrella! Another thing to add to my list of things to keep in the car lol) I didn't stay here too long, maybe 20 minutes tops because of the steady rain and the promise of a frightful drive through the fog. But what an atmosphere, what a mood I felt here. It is one of those places where you could speak your deepest secrets out loud and only feel the comfort of the silence, the reassuring gurgle of the water in front of you. Dark watchers of the trees in the background making no move to comfort, to reprimand, only to listen.
I'd love to go back soon but unfortunately with all the snow happening recently I'm afraid it'll have to wait til next Spring. At least I know where its at though and I'm confident it will keep all my secrets ;)
