St. Mary’s Church
Cottonstones
St. Mary’s Church in the hamlet of Cottonstones was opened in 1848. It was gifted by the Hadwin family to the workers of Cottonstones, Mill Bank and Soyland areas. The Hadwins were the owners of a cotton spinning business, Eliza Hadwin laid the foundation stone for the church in 1845, when she died she was buried in the graveyard along with other members of the family. I also have family buried here.
