Jewels Of The Wind

Butterflies have been the most fascinating of the insects to the human kind. Except the extreme cold regions near the poles, these Jewels are widely distributed through out the world.

Being cold blooded,climate plays a very important role in the distribution of butterflies. The climate is also responsible for the wide and diverse availability of butterflies. We in India are blessed with rich and one of the most diverse faunas of the world. From the Cold Himalayas to the scorching desert areas of Rajasthan to the monsoon blessed regions of North East,Eastern Ghats, the western ghats make India a hot spot for butterflies. Out of the 18,000 species of butterflies found through out the world, India is home to about 1500 species !

In earlier times, butterfly enthusiasts would catch butterflies and would collect them encased in glass frame. Thankfully, modern digital photography has enabled us to do away with that and make a collection of these jewels in digital formats.
