Blue Oak Leaf - Kallima horsfieldi Location - Ovalekarwadi, Thane

Nature's camouflage at its best ! This jewel can be easily mistaken for a dried leaf. The beauty of this creation is that the resemblance is so perfect that the leaf's camouflage is complete with the mid vein and the side veins too !

With a wing span of around 85-100mm, this jewel prefers forests with good rain fall It can be seen mud puddling around damp patches and feeding on tree sap & over ripe fruits..... but never on flowers !
