Sunrise in Myllykoski rapids
The image above was taken on my trip to Juuma in March 2018. This panoramic image is combined from five vertical photos. The image is taken about an hour after sunrise by the river Kitkajoki and there you can see Myllykoski rapids straight ahead. The old watermill appears on the right and on the left is lake Jyrävänjärvi which is part of the river Kitkajoki. Currently the mill cottage serves as an open wilderness hut.
When I came to the river in the morning before sunrise it was cold and the temperature was -27°C. As the sun rose, the weather warmed up and in the afternoon the temperature approached zero. This is typical when the northern spring begins to approach and the sun warms up during the day.
When the spring sun warms up, the weather is at its best and hiking can be enjoyed completely. Photography is fun and you do not have to worry about freezing the photographing equipment.
From the watermill to the flow direction you can see the hanging bridge. The bridge takes you to the Putaansaari island and from there you can also get to Pieni Karhunkierros hiking trail. The trail begins in Juuma village and it takes you to the southernmost part of the Oulanka National Park. Pieni Karhunkierros is a fabulous landscape route that is worth to get around if time is just found. The length of the route is 12 kilometers and it is a year-round route.
Press L and then F11 for a large view - then you can fully enjoy this picture!
