Afterglow.

The past few months, well 6 months to be exact had been rather stressful. As you might have seen from a previous post that one of my external hard drives met it's fateful end... before I could back them up. Well the good news is quite a lot of the data has been recovered by Payam Data Recovery Pty Ltd - Australia. Bloody brilliant!

Even better news is this image was one of the un-edited recovered files, from one of my Astro workshops at Lake Rotoiti after the Aurora had faded!

I found this file while organizing my Lightroom Catalog. I've managed to delete over 150,000 images (bad ones...) and reduced my cat significantly. organizing my storage has been good fun, I've reformatted my NAS from 8TB RAID 10 to 12TB RAID 5 array – best decision ever apart from losing one more drive to redundancy. But this process has just made my life simpler – although I still have about 20k images to merge with this catalog and back up onto the server.

The process of organizing the catalog has been interesting. I used to have a mixture of folders with date names and others with 'Landscapes' or 'People' etc. But have settles on using a VERY basic filing system which I have found to be so much better. By renaming the files like this:

2018-01-17 Location name (or relevant info)

This way of filing will chronologically order your folders making it so much easier to find images! Anyway, enough of the blabble.

I hope you enjoy this photo :)
