Matariki
Haere atu rā koutou e koro mā, e kui mā, hoki atu ki te huihuinga o Matariki.
This week we saw the rise of Matariki. Its significance is felt widely across Te Ao Māori, and for the families of Wakatū. At this time we reflect on our past, and acknowledge our tūpuna who have returned to the celestial resting place, to Matariki. We consider the significance of the legacy left to us, and the responsibility we carry to preserve and enhance our taonga for current and future generations.
Ka kitea a Matariki ka rewa i te pae, nau mai haere mai ngā hua o te tau hou!
At this time we also celebrate the fruits of our labour of the year past, and consider the lessons and achievements attained. As we look to Matariki, clear and bright on the horizon, we share our hopes and aspirations for the future and welcome the promise of a bountiful year to come.
It is with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to shoot and share this image (#1). I send a huge thank you to Thomas Moetu for enduring a balmy 3º morning, Naomi Aporo for organizing and producing, and the Wakatū Incorporation for allowing this shoot to happen in on these lands of significance.
I hope you all enjoy the celebrations of Matariki!
