Old, Moldy Humidifier Plates

The visit from the repair guy finally prompted me to do routine maintenance on my humidifier.

These are the old, moldy humidifier plates, which are SUPPOSED to be changed every year. Based on the fact that four are almost entirely broken / rotted away, and the other was green and orange with mold and rust, I'd say they've never been changed.

This humidifier (a General 800) works by dripping water into a little pan, which is wicked up by the plates and evaporated by the warm air flowing over them from the furnace below. I expect that the air will actually be humidified now, and I will no longer have dry knuckles and electrocute the cat every time I pet him.
