Roots
I don't often stop for abandoned farms for some reason, either they aren't in the right spot or maybe I just love that flat, stark foreground to help focus the eye solely on the storm itself. But racing down this dirt road southeast of Punkin Center, Colorado back on June 29th, I actually pulled a U-turn to go back to this guy. Something about the building and the tree together, standing strong against the weathering passage of time, while a storm looms behind them. And you know they've seen plenty of storms and somehow always make it through.
I also don't know if it was a sub-conscious thing when I was moving around to compose this shot, but somehow the back window on the farm is perfectly framed in the doorway. I wish I could take credit for it, but sometimes happy accidents are awesome :)
And I secretly wish there was a lightning bolt in this shot
