Flight Lieutenant Norman Adam McHolm, Target Kiel

104 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 425, 426, and 432 Squadrons were joined by 105 Lancasters from 419, 424, 427, 428, 429, 431, 433, and 434 Squadrons on an attack of the port area of Kiel, Germany. The crews were over the target at between 14,000 and 19,000 feet, releasing 1,921,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports the attack was scattered with some damage.

 

8 killed, 6 POW, 3 aircraft lost (Lancaster X KB-866 coded VR-M from 419 Squadron, Lancaster X KB-816 coded NA-E & Lancaster X KB-784 coded NA-K from 428 Squadron) 7 aircraft hit by flak, 7 aircraft attacked by enemy fighter planes, F/Lt Norman McHolm, and F/O D. Hill landed at Marston Moor on return due to poor weather at base.
