700 007 arriving at West Sutton
"Ah 007, I've been expecting you!". In this view the palindromic class 700 Siemens Desiro City EMU in the form of 700 007 gently glides its way into platform 2 at West Sutton station on the warm summery early afternoon of Thursday 22nd July 2021 with the 12:53 Thameslink service from Sutton to Wimbledon, Streatham, Tulse Hill, Herne Hill, Loughborough Junction, London Blackfriars, Farringdon, St Pancras International, West Hampstead Thameslink, Cricklewood, Hendon, Mill Hill Broadway, Elstree & Borehamwood, Radlett and St Albans City. The section of this branch line between West Sutton and Wimbledon is a pleasant mix of semi-detached suburbia, vast green parks and recreation grounds with all the stations between West Sutton and Wimbledon Chase having their distinctive 1930 Southern Railway island platforms. The island platforms of the stations on this line are long enough for 12-car trains, although the longest trains I have seen in service on the Wimbledon to Sutton line have been 10-car trains when the old BR class 415 (4 EPB) and class 416 (2 EPB) slam-door EMUs ran on the line back in the 1980s.
