RML 2371 in King's Road, Chelsea
A superb sunny and warm summer's afternoon sees London General's RML 2371 looking immaculate after its 'facelift' following London General retaining the TfL contract to operate route 14 for another 5 years in early 2002 with the vehicle heading west along the iconic King's Road in Chelsea approaching the crossroads with Beaufort Street on the course of its journey on route 22 from Piccadilly Circus down to Putney Common with a London General Volvo B7TL PVL-class vehicle on route 11 along with a Travel London Dennis Trident on route 211 following in the distance.
This photo was taken on a Saturday afternoon which accounts for the PVL operating as an OPO vehicle on route 11 as back then route 11 was operated as a crew-operated route with Routemasters on weekdays, with route 11 not converting to OPO until 1st November 2003. Up until the late 1980s this busy road junction with King's Road and Beaufort Street still had a set of the old 1940s SGE traffic lights still in use prior to these SGE traffic lights being replaced by a set of modern 'Mellor' traffic lights as seen here.
