Last one heading into the sunset
In the last few weeks, Montana Rail Link has been doing some housecleaning before the BNSF takeover at the end of the year. Several locomotives were scrapped at Livingston, including EMD SD45 Nos. 346, 351 and 382—leaving only one SD45 still on the property—MRL No. 355. The venerable locomotive is currently being used on a work train on the east end of the railroad.
At the end of a day several years ago, MRL’s last SD45 leads the railroad’s westbound Laurel to Bozeman turn under an evening sky glowing with pink accents and is passing the east switch at Quebec, nosing into a gorgeous sunset at 9:14 p.m. on June 24, 2019.
