Morning Jimbo

On June 24, 2023, Montana Rail Link’s bridge spanning the Yellowstone River near Reed Point collapsed as the railroad’s Laurel to Missoula freight crossed it, sending ten cars into the drink and closing MRL’s main line to through traffic. During the closure, MRL continued to run its locals, as well as operating a series of daily trains over the western portion of the railroad to shuttle cars and serve its on line customers. On the morning of June 28, a MRL “Jimbo” work train takes ties east toward the bridge rebuild as is cruises down Winston Hill approaching Townsend, Montana. In the background is Canyon Ferry Lake and the Silos community north of Townsend.
